Location, Location, Location

No hablo español

It’s been somewhat difficult for my fiancé & I to discuss our destination wedding plans with our families & friends….everyone has an opinion! We know we aren’t going to please everyone but when it comes down to it…its our choice & our special day. We both want a small wedding with our closest family members & friends in attendance. I couldn’t tell you the last time I spent quality time with my loved ones for a few days in a row (altogether)!

We are traveling to Mexico in a few weeks to scout our top venue locations (SO HAPPY!). I must admit I have felt high amounts of anxiety about our wedding & wedding plans over the past two months for a few reasons. Since we want to do a destination wedding, no real decisions about our big day have been locked down: venue & date! If we were planning a wedding in Philadelphia or NJ Shore, these decisions would of been made by now. We also want to make sure we send our save-the-date cards out ASAP giving our guests close to a year notice 🙂 (so yea, I’m anxious to pick our venue & date!) I have already broken down in tears a few times…I’m OK now.

Originally, Chad & I were looking at Rivera Maya & Cancun as locations for our wedding. But after learning that January & February dates were not ideal for Chad’s work schedule, we pushed our date back & changed location. After February, Rivera Maya & Cancun’s weather becomes too hot & humid (plus spring break 2013). I am not trying to sweat & have fizzy hair on my wedding day! I also looked into St. Lucia, St. Thomas & Jamaica. The Ritz Carlton St. Thomas is beautiful but pricey. I also found this amazing plantation in St. Lucia but again, too expensive. And I could not relate to Jamaica & jerk chicken.

So Cabo San Lucas it is 🙂 I heart Mexico. I also love tequila, & guacamole (not in that order). Chad and I both also loved the fact that Cabo’s weather offers sunny days & low humidity. Average highs remain comfortable year-round, ranging from the mid-70s in the winter months to the mid-90s in the summer, with very low annual rainfall (perfect). We narrowed down our wedding venue to 6 locations with the help of “In The Know Experiences,” a travel specialist company based out of NYC. My vision is a 5-star boutique hotel with modern decor. I hate the feeling & experience of staying at a big resort with lots of kiddy pools filled with a bunch of travelers who never been on vacation (yes, I’m a snob but you would agree).

I can’t wait to stay & explore these 6 locations. Chad has already been warned that I’m bringing my camera & flip cam to record the entire experience. Who knows? Maybe I’ll finally get Chad in front of the camera…yea right! We both would love to learn more Spanish too….Our goal in the next year. Maybe we can find a used Rosetta Stone kit to buy. Below are some photos of the resorts we are scouting 🙂 Wish us luck!

  1. Great blog post!!! You know where we hope you choose, however, wherever it ends up being, it is your special time with your loved ones and it WILL be PeRfEcT! I am sure the exploration of each resort will be fun while the decision making will be more difficult! Good luck.

  2. Very nice post. I simply stumbled upon your weblog and wanted to mention that I have truly loved browsing your weblog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing for your rss feed and I hope you write again very soon!

  3. Great blog post! You have selected the perfect Mexico location for your destination wedding! However, you may not want to count out private villas in Los Cabos. They are a wonderful venue for a private wedding and intimate accommodations. Good luck with your planning and we look forward to watching your blog as you plan your special day!

  4. half the fun is picking out your destination – and they look amazing!! A suggestion from one destination bride to another – create a wedding website and put the url on your save-the-date cards – that way you can give your guests all the info so they can start to book and plan their trips, but you don’t end up sending an entire folder’s worth of information in their save-the-date!
